SAMUEL MORRISON
Samuel Morrison and
Marcy Mayse. The father of Samuel Morrison, John Morrison, was born in Scotland and emigrated to Ireland about the time of the siege of
Londonderry. He was slain there with several members of his family in a conflict between the Scotch Presbyterians and the Roman Catholic Irish. Of John Morrison’s sons, at least two came to
America: Ephraim and Samuel.
Samuel Morrison was born in Stewartstown, Tyrone County, Ireland, on
January 5, 1701. He married Mercy/Marcy Mayse, who was also born in Stewartstown in
1716 - her parents were both Scotch. Samuel and Marcy Morrison emigrated to America in 1740, sailing on the ship “Sally of Coleraine”.
Samuel was a very large and powerful man. He was over six feet tall, and weighed over 250 pounds. He was also involved in a struggle between the Irish and the Protestant Scotch. He told this story to his grandson, John Morrison:
Seven furious Irishmen attacked him and his only weapon of defense was a pitchfork. He thrust this pitchfork into the assailant in the front of the pack and threw him over a stone wall. The others, after seeing this, fled.
Samuel located in Bucks County, PA and after the Revolutionary War was over, he and all of his family, several of them married by then, located on lands on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, near the mouth of Pine Creek. This is where he spent the remainder of his life. He died at Jersey Shore, Lycoming County,
PA on May 5, 1801, aged 100 years and 4 months. He and his wife Marcy, are buried in the Old Pine Creek Cemetery (also known as Davidson Cemetery). Marcy also died in Jersey Shore, Lycoming Co.,
PA, on October 30, 1798, aged 82. Although Marcy has a tombstone there, no inscribed stone has been located for Samuel Morrison.
(see a photo of her tombstone on our Picture
Page!)
Samuel Morrison left a will which can be found in the Lycoming County Court House, Williamsport,
PA - Book A, page 9, dated December 30, 1800. The Morrison Family research has found that most of these rugged men were self educated, attending very few schools and were very fast learners, becoming associated with people of different trades. This enabled them to go into business for themselves, building houses and bridges and becoming lawyers and influential business men. Samuel and Marcy Morrison had five sons in the Revolutionary War, something very impressive. Samuel and Marcy were staunch Presbyterians and were members of the First Pine Creek
congregation.

MARGARET MORRISON
Margaret Morrison and
George Morrison. Margaret Morrison was born in Bucks Co.
PA, in 1743. She first married George Morrison @1760. George Morrison was born @1739 and died
@1775. He served as a private from
PA in the American Revolutionary War. The ancestry of George Morrison is unknown, but it is known that his wife was Margaret Morrison. He settled near the mouth of Pine Creek about 1771, and died not too long after that. His burial place is unknown. It has never been learned if he died a natural death or was killed by Indians.
George served as a Ranger on the Frontier from Northumberland County,
PA during the Revolutionary War, which was made up mostly of men who were heads of households who dared not be gone too long from their cabins because of the dangers to their families. They often accepted scouting expeditions, and it is believed that he met his death while on one of these missions.
His widow remarried 2nd to Abel Cady, who was killed by the Indians near Antes Fort one Sunday in early June 1777. Margaret then married for the 3rd time to a Mr. Young. In her father’s will of 1800, he refers to her as “my eldest daughter, Margaret
Young.”

1764. Died between 1840-1850. Married March 18, 1784 to Robert

Priscilla Campbell and
James English, Jr. Priscilla Campbell was born on March
1, 1809 - twin to Robert Campbell. She married James English,
Jr. @1828/29

June 30, 1805. James' occupation on the 1830 census for Morris
Township was listed as that of Agriculture. James died in 1853 on
his farm in Morris Township in the area well known to the natives as
"The Horn". He is buried in the English Farm Family

Priscilla Campbell English married John Francis Harrison on June 25,
1854 after the death of her first husband James. John Harrison died February
21, 1855 (age 49) in an accident where an ax "fell" on
him.
"A serious accident near Babbs, Morris Township, Tioga County, PA,
happened on Saturday the 17th inst. Two men were engaged in rolling
logs and had difficulty separating two frozen logs, whereas one of them
mounted the log with an ax to split them apart, the log rolled and the ax
glancing through the air struck the man on the temple severely injuring
him. The injured man was Harrison and his recovery is
doubtful." Source: The Tioga County Agitator; Feb 22, 1855.

Connie Campbell and
David Bennett. Connie was born in Wellsboro, PA MANY
YEARS AGO. David was born in Loudon County, TN WAY BEFORE Connie!
The two married in Huntsville, AL in Jun 1971. The exact date has
always been a source of "debate" - as neither one can
ever remember the day and proper celebration is always preceded by pulling
out the old marriage certificate.....their children simply choose to
ignore them during the month of June.
Connie ended up in Alabama with her family in the late 1960's.
Her father, Leroy R. Campbell was an accountant with General Electric and
the family moved around extensively. Connie graduated high school in
1967 in Schenectady, NY but soon returned to Alabama.
David was born in Loudon County, TN as his father, Paris F. Bennett,
Sr. was working in the Oak Ridge, TN area at the time as a master
machinist. The families permanent home, however, was in Huntsville,
AL. David graduated from New Hope High School in 1965.
The two still reside in Huntsville, AL on "The Bennett Pig and
Chicken Ranch" high atop Green Mountain!
Connie and David have three children:
-
Stephanie Lynn Bennett - who married Anthony
Shaneyfelt of Hartselle, AL and is now living in OK.
-
Ginny Shaneyfelt
-
